Prelaw Primer was developed, and courses are taught, by Laura Finkelstein, who brings a rare dual perspective as both a practicing attorney and a former college counselor.
Laura graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a degree in Political Science and earned her J.D. from USC Gould School of Law, graduating in the top 10% of her class. She is currently a practicing attorney with extensive experience in the legal field.
In addition to her legal practice, Laura earned her Certificate in College Counseling with Honors from UCLA Extension and worked for many years as an Independent Educational Consultant. Through that work, she developed a deep understanding of the academic pressures facing high school students and the importance of informed, intentional career exploration.
Her combined legal and advising experience uniquely positions her to help students explore law thoughtfully, realistically, and with confidence.
✦ What legal careers actually look like day to day
✦The wide range of paths within the legal profession
✦ The skills, mindset, and preparation that matter most long-term
✦ The real demands placed on high school students
✦ The pressure to explore careers early - often without enough information
✦ How students, families, and counselors evaluate enrichment opportunities
✦ What experiences are genuinely meaningful versus résumé-driven
This combined background allows Prelaw Primer to bridge an important gap: helping students explore law in a thoughtful, informed way while respecting the academic, extracurricular, and personal demands they already face.
